The holiday weekend will soon be upon us, and Downtown Atlanta will be heating up. How should you spend your three-day weekend in the District? We’ve got a few ideas.
Chick-fil-A Kickoff Games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Celebrate the official beginning of college football season with two high-profile games in the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Alabama takes on Florida State on Saturday, September 2 at 8:00 p.m., followed by the Tennessee vs Georgia Tech game on Monday, September 4 at 8:00 p.m. Don’t have tickets? Purchase a table at the watch parties hosted by STATS Brewpub and check out Tailgate Town at the GWCCA’s International Plaza, a FREE tailgate destination.
Cool Off in the Fountain of Rings at Centennial Olympic Park
The park may be under construction, but parts of it are still accessible to the public, including the Fountain of Rings. Summer in Atlanta is still in full force, so take advantage of the opportunity to cool off at this iconic landmark.
Dress Up for TinyCON at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta
Costumes are encouraged for all ages at this delightful spin-off of DragonCON, taking place just a few blocks away. Little ones can enjoy a day filled with fun activities, including a Mario Cart Race, Pokemon Hokey Pokey, Jedi training, Harry Potter potion-making, and much more. You’re sure to see your favorite characters!
Play a Piano for Peace
One of the largest public art displays in the city, each year Pianos for Peace brings 29 beautifully painted pianos to locations across the city that are available for anyone and everyone to enjoy. Be sure to check out the piano located right outside of the Center for Civil and Human Rights. Whether its “Chopsticks” or Tchaikovsky, play your heart out.
